Modern Home Renovation Design at Lake Sara

What started out to be a complete new house, this design evolved over time to become an addition to an existing structure on Lake Sara.  The existing home had been added on to over the years in various styles and was in need of a complete facelift.  Rather than demolish and start new, CORE10 devised this modern design to tie together all of the previous iterations in addition to adding a great room and master suite.  The entire floorplan now opens on to a new outdoor entertainment area complete with an infinity edge pool overlooking the lake.

Site planning optimizes interaction and view of the lake while minimizing disturbance to existing trees.

The expanded home provides three large entertaining spaces, including terraces that draw guests to the water’s edge. The Great Room separates a new master suite from original living spaces, offering privacy and a universal design that will allow the owners to age in place.

New painted brick complements existing stucco. Stained hardwood rainscreen unifies old and new, and folds into canopies on north and south. This cladding varies in opacity across the façade, combining with deep overhangs to reduce glare and heat gain.

Hopper and awning windows on opposite sides of the Great Room utilize the stack effect to help passively cool the space.
