M1 Bank
7801 Forsyth Renovation in Clayton, MO
This mid-century building with parking structure below has been a bank since its start in the 1960s. While the main structure remains, we wrapped it in a new glass surround for onlookers to enjoy a modern building design that fits the current bustling downtown and also reflects its roots.
The project comprises the renovation of an existing 3-story building, below grade garage level expansion, façade upgrades and extensive site improvements. The concept of the design is to transform this mid-century delight into a jewel in a garden. The ground plane is reclaimed and enlivened with a brick paver plaza, and the perimeter brick patio wall ties this project together with the adjacent Office Center and Event Space to begin what will become a three-building corner campus in downtown Clayton. The building’s presence will be enhanced by shifting the plane of the curtain wall out to the edge of the roof line.
The interior is all new and continues our work establishing a powerful design language for M1’s growing portfolio while still providing a unique look appropriate to the location in St. Louis’ financial district. Rich materials including wood tiles, custom metal grilles, terrazzo, bronze and gold accents, porcelain tile, and (so much) glass convey M1’s commitment to their home and to their philanthropic mission.
